Interior Building Systems & Codes

Level 2 (intermediate)

Interior Building Systems and Codes teaches students about the construction that goes on behind the surfaces they design.  Students study the built environment from the perspective of sustainability, accessibility, universal design, and Fire & Life Safety Codes.  The course explains why many items are designed in a certain way and how this can support safe use by all individuals.

In their final project, students were tasked with visiting a public place and observing it for building structures, accessibility, and fire code compliance.  Sites visited included Los Angeles International Airport, Universal Studios, and the Broad Museum.
